Welcome to the 9th edition of our Maramataka Matariki, which follows the Māori lunar calendar closely and includes Ruhanui this year. Each lunar month is accompanied by stunning artwork, created in wānanga by “Te Ohu Weka”, a collaboration of Te Tauihu artists led by Robin Slow and Mat Tait. As always all proceeds go towards Te Ataarangi’s grassroots reo revitalisation programmes across Te Tauihu/ the Top of the South.

Description
This Maramataka Matariki was created by “Te Ohu Weka”, an evolving collaboration of artists and whānau, under the guidance of Robin Slow and Mat Tait. The works feature mineral based paints including kōkōwai. Our focus this year was Te Whenua, providing some stunning images for you to enjoy as the year unfolds.
The months are laid out to reflect our evolving knowledge of Te Maramataka Māori, and our respect for the work of Dr. Rangi Matāmua and others who are constantly providing us all with new challenges in how we see and reflect our deeper understandings of Te Ao Māori.
The calendar is set up to show the Māori Lunar Calendar and is built around the contemporarily agreed times of the traditional Māori months. The Roman Solar Calendar is still included in the layout with a simple change in the timing of turning the pages.
